Summary
UGA Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV is a back to back National Champion and a 2022 Heisman finalist. That pedigree alone is enough to get him drafted. But what about the tape? With Stetson Bennett you get a small framed QB who has absolutely zero elite traits. Watching Bennett’s tape he feels like a product of a great system, put in place by OC Todd Monken, and elite weapons across the board led by dominant TEs Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington. Monken used Bennett’s sneaky athleticism on zone reads, RPO’s, and bootlegs to help open up the passing windows which Bennett thrived with. Stetson played in the UGA offense well because it masked many of Stetson’s biggest issues. He was able to throw to open space without having pressure on him too often.
Even though he has one of the top collegiate pedigrees in college football history and one of the top feel good stories of recent memory in college football, Stetson Bennett should not be looked at as anything more than a backup option for teams. As a player he feels like the type of guy who’s best case scenario is landing in a West Coast offense where he can play with the proper spacing and rhythm for him to be effective.
