Analysis
A former 5 star recruit, UGA product Jalen Carter is one of the top defensive lineman in the class. Carter is 310 lbs but moves like he’s 260. His combination of speed and power give him the versatility to be lined up across the defensive line for the Bulldog defense. Carter has a variety of pass rush moves that he uses in tandem with his athleticism to be a nightmare for offensive linemen everywhere. Carter is constantly abusing opposing linemen: against Kentucky, he blew up double teams and just dominated the line. His sack of Wildcats QB Will Levis was one of his best plays of the season. My biggest question with Carter is how he will he handle being the main focus of offensive game plans. The UGA defense sent more than half of last year’s starters to the NFL, including defensive linemen Travon Walker, Jordan Davis, and Devonte Wyatt. That leaves Carter as the focal point on the line, which will also come with a ton of added attention. If Carter still excels at the level he’s capable of, there is zero doubt in my mind that Carter will go in the top 5 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
