Analysis

Jahmyr Gibbs is going to be fun to watch behind the Alabama offensive line. The first thing that stands out about his game is the ability to to catch passes out of the backfield. He is absolutely lethal with the ball in his hands. He can also take hits at the point of catch and still hold onto the ball. He shows good contact balance and keeps a low center of gravity. Gibbs shows good explosion in short space and good lateral quickness to beat defenders to the edge. He has really worked hard to become a more patient runner and to wait for his guards to pull and do the work for him. While he doesn’t possess elite breakaway speed, he is very fast and is rarely caught from behind. One of his weaknesses is he offers very little help in pass protection. Often times he just lays down in front of the defender or he just puts his body in the way. At times he feels a little undersized and it feels like he lacks power necessary to break tackles. Overall, Gibbs is a solid running back who easily could be my RB2 by the end of the cycle. I am interested to see how he will be in an Alabama offense and what he can do behind n Alabama offensive line. Right now I give Gibbs an early third round grade, with room to bump up to a mid-to late second ground grade.
