Analysis

Justin Shorter was a 5 star recruit out of Monmouth Junction, NJ, playing at South Brunswick High School. After struggling with injury and a lack of production over his two years at Penn State, he transferred to Florida for a change of scenery. His athletic profile is off the charts. He stands at 6’4″ and 223 pounds with track-like straight-line speed. He shows off his dangerous physical traits in the short game, where he picks up speed fast on drags. However, he lacks the technical refinement of a high draft pick. While being fast on post, fly, and drag routes, his feet are too slow to have a deeper route tree. Thus, UF usually used him on clearout routes where he would attack zones and take DBs out of the play. He also often catches with his body, and doesn’t attack the football at a high level. His aggressiveness in blocking is questionable as well. Can block when the target isn’t moving, but struggles to get two hands on quicker DBs. Despite these struggles, his athletic profile alone is enough to warrant a day 3 pick from a team who hopes to reach one of the highest physical ceilings in the draft class.
