Analysis
A former top overall recruit, Smith has been a key piece for the Georgia defense the past couple years. His frame and athleticism create a unique blend of speed and power that he uses with effectiveness. Georgia moves him around the defensive formation, even dropping him into coverage at times, further proof that he’s a versatile presence on the edge. His toolbox is full of pass rush moves, which when paired with his athleticism can make him near-impossible to block. Even though Smith has a smaller frame, he is relentless in run defense. I would love to see him add a bit more size to make him more effective though. As a pass rusher, Smith has a few good pass rush moves, but is very inconsistent with his plan and ability to get to the QB. Even when Smith looks like he’s completely out of plays, his motor runs hot and he works his way back in and is always around the ball. Smith should explode this year as a leader for the Georgia defense and establish himself as a first round pick.
