Analysis

Quentin Johnston was a four-star recruit from Temple, Texas, attending a high school of the same name, who committed to TCU before the 2020 season. His athletic profile is imposing, and it stands out on film. His speed and contact balance are impressive, and combine to create a dangerous YAC threat. His best trait, however, is his ability to make plays on 50-50 balls. Many of his targets come in one-on-one situations, and more often than not, he displays excellent ball tracking and hands, coming down with the catch. As for his technique, there is definitely work to be done. While he shows great speed, his routes are often flat and he doesn’t create much separation. His cuts aren’t consistently sharp, and he doesn’t do a great job of selling double-moves. This limits his success in the intermediate levels of the field. In limited opportunity, his blocking appeared serviceable, getting in the way of the defender, rather than moving them off the spot. If he is able to improve his route running and maximize his potential, his combination of traits make him an intriguing prospect to many teams.
