Analysis

Hendon Hooker, a former 4 star recruit from Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC, is one of the most intriguing prospects in this class. His massive frame, in combination with his speed and athleticism, gives him a high ceiling, which he got closer to reaching in 2021. After transferring from Virginia Tech, the Tennessee QB had his best season, demonstrating proficiency in the short game. His accuracy at all 3 levels of the field is strong in a clean pocket, but suffers greatly when he is unable to step into throws. This also hinders his off-schedule playmaking, as he rarely attempts rollout throws, and typically scrambles with a run-first mentality, rather than keeping his eyes down the field. He is a plus runner, however, who can excel in designed run packages. He wasn’t asked to make full-field reads, and typically stared down targets, which led to turnovers against strong defenses. He operates best getting the ball out quickly, and showed promise in an RPO and screen-heavy attack. If he is able to speed up his eyes and get to the later reads more often, he has the ability to shoot up draft boards.
